Postdoctoral Research Position in Enzymology
The Laboratory of Dr. Wen Zhu in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position available immediately.
Our research aims to uncover how protein conformational dynamics shape enzyme catalysis and to leverage this understanding for mechanism-based drug discovery. Ongoing projects explore protein-protein interactions in multidomain enzymes and radical-based metalloenzymology, integrating biochemistry, biophysics, and bioinorganic spectroscopy to elucidate the molecular principles underlying enzyme function and to advance therapeutic discovery.
We seek a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative scientist eager to contribute to a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with Dr. Zhu and other team members, contribute to peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals, and present research findings at national and international conferences.
Minimum qualifications:
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
Strong track record in experimental or computational biochemistry.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Willingness to learn new techniques and approaches
Preferred qualifications:
Prior experience in structural methods (X-ray crystallography, NMR, mass spectrometry, or cryo-EM), protein dynamics, and/or enzymology.
Background in bioinorganic chemistry, biosynthesis, or cell-based studies.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while mentoring junior researchers.
The Zhu Laboratory offers access to state-of-the-art facilities in Chemistry, Biology, and Molecular Biophysics, with collaborations extending to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) and Southeastern Center for Microscopy of Macromolecular Machines (SECM4) cryo-EM facility. Dr. Zhu’s dual experience in academia and the pharmaceutical industry provides mentorship in both scientific research and transferable career skills relevant to academic, biotech, and pharmaceutical pathways.
FSU and the Zhu Lab are committed to fostering a supportive environment. The initial appointment is for one year, with potential for renewal based on performance.
To apply, please send: A curriculum vitae with a list of publications, a brief statement of research experience and interests, and the email address of at least one reference to Dr. Wen Zhu.
